Fiddlers Grove To Open Kidz Korner

Fiddlers Grove will open its newly remodeled barn by June 1 with a section called "Kidz Korner."  It will be open to children of all ages on "special" Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer so that they can learn the skill of building a log cabin made from Lincoln Logs.  Fiddlers Grove was honored to be provided several building kits by the company that makes Lincoln Logs as an addition to our effort to educate children.  The Grove is continuing to locate old games that children can play much as their parents and grandparents did in days gone by.

We hope to continue adding new games and will post in our blog on our website as well as on Facebook so that the public can be aware of what is being offered.

Kidz Korner will become a part of the annual Kidz Kamp that will be offered to children on June 3, and June 10.  Additional Kidz Kamp may be offered in July.  Watch this post often for updates on new offerings.

October Events in Fiddlers Grove

Fiddlers Grove was was full of activity October 20 – 24, 2014. The Renegade Woodcarvers Roundup was in full capacity teaching woodcarving techniques. Steve Brown, the person responsible for this event, advised he has held two week-long classes each year at Fiddlers Grove beginning in 2004. Mr. Brown was recently inducted into the Caricature Carvers of America which is quite a prestigious honor. He is one of five teachers instructing the class of 52 people in caricature woodcarving. People from 17 states, Alaska, and two families from Canada, participated in the class. One lady, Cindy McDowell, is from Eagle River, Alaska. She advised she had been involved in woodcarving for about 15 years. Not only were the woodcarvers busy, but the Appalachian Area Chapter of Blacksmiths also held its Jack Wheeler Instructional Workshop. They were at the Fiddlers Grove Blacksmith Shop from October 24 – 26, 2014. Wallace Gusler, a well-known craftsman instructed the class in Chase Hammer engraving. This is a technique used in carvings on antique firearms. Mr. Gusler comes from Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, where he has been a Master Gunsmith for 20 years, the Curator of Furniture for 10 years. Local Blacksmith Eddie Donnelly advised they were very fortunate to have Mr. Gusler as their instructor. There were 20 blacksmiths in this class and they came from all over Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Virginia. Fiddlers Grove is honored to have such talented people visiting and utilizing the facilities in the Grove.

Happenings in the Grove

IMG 0199 Small

Fiddlers Grove Historical Village at the James E. Ward Agriculture Center in Lebanon held its 5th Annual Ghosts in the Grove on October 17, 2014. There were all kinds of witches, ghouls, and ghosts lurk
ing in the dark corners of the Grove, waiting to make an appearance when anyone ventured their way. The visitors gathered at the gate entrance and were welcomed by many spooky characters to take them on their tours. While they waited, they were greeted by a cat and its caretaker who manned the concessions and served hot dogs, chips, brownies, and plenty of hot chocolate. There were nine historic stories that had a ghostly twist. One of the highlights of the evening was a tour through the miniature train museum. Everyone had a “spooktacular” time. The folks in the Grove are already thinking about next year’s Ghosts in the Grove.

Mark your calendar for the October 2015 event and plan to come!
